How Can I Merge One MicroBase Pro Database With
Another?
You can use the MicroBase Pro Database Zap and
Import features to effectively merge two databases into one.
Note: The
following procedure does not check for duplicate records. If a given data
item exists in both of the databases to be merged, the combined database
will contain two copies of the data item. You can manually delete duplicate
data items after the merge is complete.
Example Problem
- Your PC crashes and
all data is lost (including 2000 data items in your MicroBase Pro
database).
- You replace your computer with a new one
and install the latest version of
MicroBase Pro.
- You begin using the new computer with
MicroBase Pro and soon you have saved 500 new data items.
- Your IT department retrieves a copy of
your MicroBase Pro installation from a backup and sends it to you.
- You
wish to merge the two databases into one.

Example Solution
The following steps will merge your two databases into one. Take your time, work carefully and deliberately to insure you don't skip a step or make
a mistake:
- Locate Old Database: Copy
the old database to a folder on your desktop **.
- Clear Data Filter:
Start MicroBase Pro and click Options - Data
Filter - Clear Filter. In the Database View
(lower left corner) make sure the very top entry (MicroBase or Tree
View) is selected. The entire database will be displayed in the
Selection List (lower right). Note the
number of items displayed.
- Export
Selection List: Click File - Export.
Drill the file picker to your PC's desktop. Enter a filename for the
export
(for example: "NewData"). then click Export. All data
items in the selection list will be exported to the file NewData.mbx.
- Zap
Current Database: Click Database -Zap
Database - Yes. The current database will be
deleted.
- Create Database: The
Create Database dialog will be displayed. Choose the third radio button
labeled "copies of all data items found in the following
MicroBase folder". Click Choose Folder, then
drill down to the old database folder you saved to your desktop. Once
you have located the old database folder, click Create.
- Import
NewData.mbx: Click
File -
Import Data.
Use the file picker to drill down to the export file you created
earlier. Select the file and then click Import.
- Note
Database Size: Your database should now contain data items from
both databases (2500 items in this example).
** Depending on the version of your old
MicroBase Pro, your database may consist of between 11 and 15
DBF files,
plus one DBT file. Index files (MBX) are not needed for this operation.
